How can some Christians justify supporting capital punishment?

0

Jesus died on a cross in a form of capital punishment. Seems like something Christians would logically oppose. Remember, aren’t you guys against OT law and for NT law? Note: Why the thumbs down? Jesus, according to the book, was subject to capital punishment. No problems there. Christians usually deny the need to commit themselves to the old testament laws that are particularly ridiculous. Like Lev 15:19-30, where it says that women who are menstruating(on their period) should be seperated until the 7th day, then they must bring 2 pidgeons or two turtledoves to the priest and make a sacrifice, one burnt offering and one sacrifice. Christians do not accept it. They believe God took out these laws and replaced them with ‘Love.’ Examples where god says killing is justified in the OT should be taken away with the OT law.

The word “kill” in that verse is specifically speaking of a criminal homicide. Capital punishment is found within the Biblical law. Jesus did not do away with that law or change it. It is not void. It is still binding as Jesus says: Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Matthew 5:18 For truly I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Some Christians seem to think that Jesus destroyed the Biblical law but Jesus’ death on the cross only did away with the ceremonial aspects of the law (also called the ordinances), and not the non-ceremonial aspects of the law. Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; If you had read the laws concerning capital punishment, then you would understand that some crimes were so haneous t

Because our God is a God of justice, and is in favor of capital punishment.
