There are scientific methods in which you can conclusively identify a child’s gender after conception. However, these methods require that gestation reach a certain point before administring the tests. The two that I know of are amniocentesis and chorionic villi testing. These tests are NOT used to determine gender but to rule out genetic defects for example spina bifida, chromosomal anomalies, genetic profiling, etc. Both are moderately risky and can cause miscarriage and therefore only performed when absolutely necessary. Chorionic villi sampling can be performed at 12 weeks and amniocentesis is usually performed at 15-20 weeks of gestation. Another not so scientific method is the Chinese Gender Calandar (which was actually accurate for all of my children 😉 ). This calendar uses the lunar age of the mother and month of conception to determine sex. It’s fun but I wouldn’t hold a lot of faith in this since it’s not conclusive.
