How can vegans refuse to eat any animal products yet have no problem wearing leather products?

Most vegans use no animal products at all. They might wear synthetic leather, but never real leather. Also, many vegans do so for health reasons and not for concern for animals. I saw a great bumper sticker it said. “I don’t love animals, I just really hate plants” Now, if someone in a leather jacket was a PETA member, that would be hypocritical.
