Spilled onto a white table cloth, I have removed red wine by applying liquid TIDE and/or WINE AWAY spray (but this at a hardware store) and wash in the machine with hot wash/cold rinse. Worked like a charm.

You can remove wine stains from your carpet by first pouring hydrogen peroxide on the stain. Allow it to stand for a few minutes. Then mist the stain with a spray bottle filled with a mixture of half water and half carpet cleaning shampoo. Blot dry with a clean white cloth. This is effective even on light colored carpeting.
