How can you tell if a motor is Wye-Delta wound?
The part-wind and Wye-Delta motor starters must change the way the power is fed to the motor windings, within the starting equipment. Consequently, there will be more wires in the motor junction box than one may be familiar with DOL starting. There may be 9 or 12 wires from a dual voltage, Wye-Delta motor. This should not concern a competent site electrician, however, as all the motor leads are numbered and the motor wiring diagram will detail how the motor is to be wired, depending upon the power supply and the starting equipment specified and supplied on site.
- I have a wye-delta wound motor and the motor nameplate says the FLA (full load amps) is 20. What should the overload relay of an Siemens electronic soft-starter be set for?
- My elevator motor is has 12 leads. Is it wound across the line or wye-delta?
- My motor has 6 leads. Is it wound across the line or wye-delta?
