How closely does SPAMALOT follow Monty Python and the Holy Grail?

A: I’m just wondering how you could have avoided it. H: There’s a million movies out there to see. It’s because I was working, I’ve been in the theater a long time. You could only see it when you could see it. And they know I haven’t seen it, it’s not like a secret.But it certainly starts out being the Holy Grail. And there’s references to other things and other movies, I think. All along the way, the audience generally greets the arrival with (applause), because they know who the characters are.
