Most newspapers and publications give COMPOSITE quotes for all stocks. Composite quotes are the average price of trades executed across all markets in a stock listed on the NYSE* or American Stock Exchange*. This includes trades on those exchanges and on the five regional exchanges* including the Boston, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Pacific and Midwest Stock Exchanges. At Nightly Business Report we only use composite quotes on our list of New York Stock Exchange “most active” shares. We give all other quotes based on the closing price at the stock’s primary exchange.
