How come Israeli football teams play in European competitions?
The Asian Football Confederation threw Israel out in the seventies for political reasons after several Arabian teams had refused to play against Israel. Then the east bloc countries blocked it’s entry in the European UEFA, so Israel played its qualification matches against Oceanian teams. After the end of the cold war Israel was admitted to the UEFA and plays against European teams ever since. But it’s not the only country to play in a confederation of another continent, as Australia recently moved to the Asian confederation and the Guyanas and Suriname play in the North American. Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan play in the European confederation although the bigger part of those countries lies in Asia. And to all the people that think Israel lies in Europe: There is a world outside the US! Get an atlas and discover it! At least try to figure out which continents there are apart from North America.
