Like a lot of late 2nd and 1st century BC Apocalyptic, Enoch describes fallen angels, Sheol, the world to come (OLAM HABAN), and the End of Days. Because it asserted that the origin of evil was that angels (NEPHILIM) revolted against God, because it ignored Mosaic Law (TORAH) on circumcision and Sabbath observance, because it felt the Second Temple to be polluted, because it employed a solar calender rather than a lunar, and because it had a lot of phantasmagorical speculation on the End of Days and the afterlife, Enoch was not included in the canon. Books like Jubilees, Esdras, Daniel, Ezekiel, Bel and the Dragon, and the three Enochs describe fantastic, afterlife phenomona that struck some readers as undignified and unknowable. Ezekiel and Daniel were widely read and loved, however, and achieved canonization while many similar flights of imagination did not.
