How contemporary is the library? Does it have access to the latest technology to augment its traditional programs and services?
The library reinvents itself every few years. We are currently offering state-of-the art technology for patron use and employing that same level of technology behind the scenes to use tax dollars as efficiently as possible. More will be possible in the new library. Some examples of patron services technology include: public access computers, free wireless Internet access within the library, online access to thousands of newspapers and magazines from around the world, online car repair data (and lots of other topics), and computer technology to assist patrons with print disabilities. Some examples of behind-the-scenes technology include the radio frequency identification (RFID) technology we use for our inventory and security system that allows us to offer self-service check-in and checkout. Our website, online catalogue and automated telephone messaging systems enable our patrons to renew items, place holds, and get library information from home or when the library is closed.
