How could Mr. Whaler – Ron Francis – not be ranked among the top 50 all-time players?
Bill Clement: Fifty might sound like a large number, but when you are talking about all-time players, that’s a tough list to crack. I agree that Francis is a terrific player and has been for many years. I think he’s been underrated because he is not a good skater and he doesn’t do anything with any flash. His all-around game is incredible, but no one thing stands out. If they did a list of the best all-around players of all time, he would undoubtedly be in the top 50. He is trying to leverage a federal tax break and let it be known that he might sell the team. Six U.S. groups have expressed interest, but no offers have been taken and no price tag has been set.
