How dangerous are airsoft guns?
At the power levels commonly used for airsoft skirmishing it’s perfectly safe providing you take some very basic precautions. Eye protection is a must. The only part of the body which can be seriously damaged by an airsoft gun is your eyes. Good eye protection is a must. It needs to have the same levels of protection as workshop safety glasses and must protect from the side also, so sunglasses or normal glasses won’t cut it! While not strictly necessary, I always recommend wearing full face protection – be it a paintball style mask, a plastic face shield or neoprene mask. Teeth can be broken or knocked out if shot (I know this from painful experience! 😉 ) and hits to the face can often result in nasty looking bloody welts. This is due to the face that the bone is very close to your skin and there’s no flesh to absorb the impact of the hit.
