A car burglary was thwarted in Sausalito on Wednesday when a 16-year-old girl confronted the suspect and later helped identify him, police said. Chau Thanh Nguyen, 35, of Marin City was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and vandalism. Bail was set at $10,000. The incident occurred Wednesday morning at 2400 Bridgeway, where the girl was waiting in a car while her father was inside the FedEx Kinko’s store, said Sausalito police Officer Francisco Padilla. Two cars away in the small parking lot, the girl spotted a man trying to break into a four-door Hyundai with a pry tool. The girl opened the door of her car, which scared off the burglar, and then called police with her father. “She gave a good description to dispatch,” Padilla said. “A couple of minutes later, we found the suspect walking on the sidewalk.” Police concealed the girl in a patrol car and showed her the suspect, and she identified him as the burglar.
