How Did American Football Begin?
American football began as the result of British immigration by the early colonists. Damn imigants! Rugby was the name of the game and it was as popular as letting kids drink beer on Thanksgiving. By which I mean rugby was very popular. At first, at any rate. Over time the American insistence upon using hands as the primary locomotive device for sporting events rather than the feet preferred by the Europeans meant that the rules of rugby transformed. American football in a form that we could just barely recognize on the frozen tundra in Green Bay would not arrive until around the election and subsequent assassination of James Garfield. The origins of American football are up in the air, with two different versions of the story behind the first recognizably American football game in play.
