The skies of San Francisco roared this afternoon as the Blue Angels streaked overhead, and leading today’s practice run for this weekend’s Fleet Week air shows was the lesser-known but still awe-inducing Fat Albert Airlines. A ride aboard the tub-like C-130 Hercules aircraft can leave one lightheaded and sometimes nauseous, but few who take the ride regret the experience. Fat Albert accompanies the Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet jets to all of their air shows, hauling equipment and crewmembers and opening the performance. The body of the plane was empty of equipment today, and riders sat across from each other, backs against the sides of the plane, straining to see the horizon through the small windows.
