Greek culture influenced the development of Roman civilization because at first Rome absorbed ideas from Greek colonists in southern Italy, and they continued to borrow from Greek culture after they conquered Greece. The Romans adapted Greek and Hellenistic achievements. The blending of Greek, Hellenistic, and Roman traditions produced what is known as Greco-Roman civilization.
