How did Mussolini consolidate his political power after coming to power in 1922?
Politically Mussolini claimed to be a corporatist – as in believing the state was a “corporated body” – which meant he created “fascismos”. These “fascismos” were allegedly councils between capitalists and labor leaders which were suppose to come to agreements and run the politics and economy of the country – of course though in actuality the capitalists always got the upper hand and the labor leaders were forced to comply. Also Mussolini used the “Black Shirts”, gangs of “ragtag” fascist thugs who would beat anyone who demonstrated against the regime. So, combine the interests of capitalism and the stupidity of extreme right wing violent people and you have the basis of Mussolini’s fascism. Sounds familiar.
