How did nationalism cause the Hiroshima bombings in 1945?

Oh yes. JAPANESE nationalism caused the bombings. Not American nationalism. The Japanese would not surrender any other way. The most humane (a bit confusion to use it here, but it really was) solution to end the war was dropping the bombs. Any other solution would have caused far more victims and suffering: 1- Invasion of the Japanese mainland Very difficult, Operation Olympic would have had millions of victims, both sides. 2- Starve them into submission Would have taken at least another year, with million dying of hunger and disease. 3- Demonstrate the bomb Invite Japanese scientists and top brass to show them what the bomb will do. The Japanese would not have believed it, and their honor would demand not to surrender anyway.
