How did Nietzsche and Freud challenge traditional morality?
Nietzsche challenged traditional morality by stating that it was merely a conventional piece of society that people have fabricated to be far more important than they really are. He believed that a new order should replace it, one that puts emphasis on strength and power. Freud stated that there were three pieces of the human mind: id, ego, and superego, all of which work together to form a person’s mind and personality. He explained that they almost worked against eachother, the ID seeking pleasure and making you act unconciously and primative, while the ego made you rethink and rationalize, the superego was like the really really good guy and made you rethink everything filling your head with neurotic moral thoughts. 12.
