The immediate reaction was one of disappointment, as it was a very short speech. Those in the audience were expecting a 1-2 hour speech just like the speakers before Lincoln. Reviews of the Address largely expressed the sentiment that Lincoln was being insincere by reciting such a clipped speech. However, given time, it became one of the best in history. more
