How did Princess Diana help people?
Diana was the first royal to really visit AIDS patients in hospitals. In 1987 people were still very ignorant about AIDS and there was a lot of fear and paranoia. Diana visited the patients without any protective clothing, touched and kissed people and held AIDS babies. She reached out physically to AIDS patients and showed compassion and love. Diana also worked with sick children, the homeless, individuals with drug and alcohol problems and the poor. Diana also took up the cause of Leprosy and visited lepers in India. Oftentimes, Diana would just show up at clinics unannounced and without an entourage, for the sole purpose of aiding people. Diana raised a lot of public awareness, as well as raising millions of dollars and encouraging others to do charitable works. She was a great lady, the likes of which we may never see again in a royal family.
She was one of the first celebrities to cradle babies in Africa who had AIDS when people were still very scared of how AIDS was contracted. She walked through minefields to bring awareness to the problem of children loosing their lives and limbs in southeast Europe. She did do a lot of things for photo ops but that was her power. She had the photo ops because she knew her causes would be heard by the world by letting the press in. Why run away from them when you can use them for good. What really made the people love her was that she would touch and be around the “untouchable” which royalty NEVER did. Ever seen Bush visit homeless people in America or try and bring awareness about their plight? No. It’s all about war and dominance with the current administration. Princess Diana did the best she could and she brought the royal family into a new modern era and was a good role model for humanitarian efforts. FYI: Diana was not a commoner before marrying.
