How did the death of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hugria start WWI?
Contrary to popular belief, the assassination of Ferdinand did not start WWI. There were other factors which were already in place, his death was simply an excuse for the Austro-Hungarian Empire to declare war. Germany offered them a “blank check” and Austria took this to mean the Germans would assist them. It was only when the Germans violated the neutrality of Belgium that the War really got going.
