How did the intolerant Puritan religion lead to the start of the colony of Rhode island?
Roger Williams was exiled from the strictly Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony for his more liberal religious views. He then established Providence Plantation (later to become Providence, Rhode Island) and a few other towns which were based on ideas of liberty and freedom of choice. Rhode Island was probably the 2nd most progressive colony behind William Penn’s Pennsylvania. You could say that those rejected by the strict and “intolerant” puritanism of Massachusetts Bay went on to found the much more tolerant Rhode Island colony, to answer your question.
