The Nile was the lifeforce of Ancient Egypt, in that it alone provided the water to irrigate crops. It provides very much the same function today. Egypt is populated in a narrow strip, never more than a few miles wide, along the banks of the Nile, which is thousands of miles long, that is hard to imagine but true.
