Seminoles get back in the win column November 14, 6:29 PMFlorida State Seminoles ExaminerCorey Dowlar WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Florida State kept its bowl hopes alive with a 41-28 win over Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon. Despite losing Christian Ponder, the top quarterback in the ACC, to an injury Florida State’s offense didn’t miss a step with EJ Manuel at the helm. In his first ever start, the redshirt freshman completed 15-20 attempts for 220 yards, a touchdown and one interception. While taking over the offense for the first time had the potential to cause excess anxiety for Manuel, the Virginia native kept his poise as if he had been under center all season long. “Coach Fisher puts so much pressure on us in practice to perform and be excellent that the game is really easy,” Manuel said. “It becomes second nature. So I felt like today really was a glorified practice.” Head coach Bobby Bowden noticed how collected his young quarterback was too. “He did everything nice,” Bowden said.

Florida State’s 41-28 victory officially eliminated the Demon Deacons (4-7, 2-5 ACC) from bowl contention; Wake, which has now lost five games in a row, won’t play in the postseason for the first time since 2005. Quantcast “We’ve got a lot of young guys on the team that don’t feel very good about this,” said Wake coach Jim Grobe. “Certainly, our seniors are disappointed because they had a little bit to live up to after the last three years.” This one wasn’t like the Deacons’ record five losses of three points or fewer this season. Wake racked up 17 more yards of total offense (454-437), including 227 yards on he ground, but the Deacons struggled to convert on key first
