How did the US responf to the rise of Hitler?
Actually the US of A was not as out of the picture as answers thus far might suggest. Americans were well aware of the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and the response was mixed. Many viewed Hitler as a comic opera character, another in a long line of strutting Huns with silly mustaches and a tendency to spit when they spoke but many, perhaps far too many viewed Hitler with pride hoping he would be the one to restore Germany to a Glory that sadly enough never was. There were Americans who responded to Hitler by forming American Nazi Friendship Societies and desperately hoped America would side with Germany in any conflict that might arise. Many armchair historians who rarely check their facts will bewail how Unprepared America was and how America clung to an Isolationist stance. This is a misreading of actual events. Yes Americans debated when to get involved in what was for a time a European Conflict but the truth is that from 1935 on until the events of December 7 1941 American Industry
