We have noticed the short-term effects of buyer behaviour: people increasing their intake of fish products and being generally more aware of what they eat and where it comes from. Iceland is known to have some of the best and least-affected foods in the world, and I am not only talking about fish. Beef and lamb are of best quality. Coming back to your question, the short-term effects were visible in an increase of fish exported to the affected countries, but in the long run, people go back to their normal habits. Whaling is an emotional subject. Across the world, environmental groups have mobilised to protect the largest animals on Earth, going to battle with slogans like “save the whales”. What is your opinion on resuming whaling? Many European countries are so extremist in their views on whaling that they cannot see what is right and what is wrong.
