How did they get through their Ofsted inspections?

• More easily than you might expect. Take City of Leeds School, where a mere 10 per cent passed five GCSEs. Having inspected it last March, the inspectors reported: “This is an improving school offering a good quality education in a caring environment. The teaching is good and the leadership very good; it gives good value for money.” Or Beechwood, Slough, where eight per cent passed five GCSEs: “An effective school providing a satisfactory education. The teaching is good and the leadership very good.” Or Montgomery, Canterbury, where seven per cent passed five GCSEs. “Pupils,” the inspectors reported, complacently, “are increasingly achieving their potential. The leadership is strong and most of the teaching at least satisfactory.” Oddly, only three of the 10 least successful schools in England were judged to be “failing to give their pupils an acceptable standard of education”. And Ofsted has the nerve to criticise teachers for having low expectations. Our daughter gained an A* in GCS
