How did Vaastu Purusha come into existence ?
According to Hindu mythology, when Lord Shiva and demon, Andhakasura were engaged in war, a drop of sweat from Shiva’s body fell on the earth. As a result a dark – skinned boy was born. This new – born baby was hungry and began to swallow whatever was falling on earth from the battleground. Ultimately, when Andhakasura was defeated and landed on the earth, the baby swallowed his body to satiate his hunger. But to no avail. So Lord Shiva granted him a boon. He permitted the newborn baby boy to swallow everything that came his way. At this, the devtas, demons and jives were horrified. Lord Brahma, Indra, Varun, Ishwara, Agni, Vayu, Kuber, Ishan and the demons formed a nine – into – nine perfect square and held the boy upside down to prevent him from devouring the three worlds. This boy was named Vastu Purusha and was put in charge of the earth.
