Only a handful of riders have ever made it to the NFR on two horses. To come back and win on another horse is almost impossible. Last year, I felt I did everything right and worked so hard for it. When it was over, I felt like I’d done everything in rodeo that I wanted to do. Q: There were very few rodeos that you and Scamper didn’t win, but one of them was Calgary. This summer, you won that rodeo’s $50,000 bonus, which had eluded you in your career. A: That’s right. It was a goal of mine. Winning $50,000 at Calgary on Jill Besplugs horse (Chicado Doc) was something I really wanted. I won Calgary on Magic, but never on Scamper. Q: When you were growing up, you probably never imagined that you’d go as far as you have. There was certainly great luck in finding Scamper, but I’m sure it also took lots of work and commitment.
