How do chicken IgYs compare methodologically with mammalian IgGs?
Chicken antibodies are functionally equivalent to rabbit and other mammalian antibodies in most biochemical and cellular applications, including Western Blots (using both alkaline phosphatase- and horseradish peroxidase labeled antibodies), Immunocytochemistry, and even Immunoprecipitation. Moreover, the affinities of rabbit versus chicken antibodies are quite comparable with Kd values typically in the 1-3 ng/ml range. Click here for detailed protocols for these and other methods.
