How do cops measure/determine braking distance/speed at an accident scene?
Cops use a tried and tested method, which is based on scientific work, not theirs, so they can measure from the tire marks, and other things like a witness statement, the speed the car was doing before the accident ~ and remember that you also have to take into account the thinking distance ~ which at 30 MPH would be around three car lengths before you apply the brakes to start with.
