How do forecasters predict where the storm is headed?
Predicting relies on taking the information from past seasons. Forecasters look at what indications from past hurricanes can lead into similar scenarios in the present season. A hurricane is fueled from atmospheric conditions such as warm oceans and above-average sea surface temperatures. Dr. Richard Knabb, a forecaster from the National Hurricane Center, predicts an above average season overall in the Caribbean, Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
