How do government loans/grants work?

First off, sorry you parents aren’t willing to help 🙁 well if you are still considered a dependent of your parents (even if u turn 18), and they make too much (according to the gov’t), then FAFSA wont give you much help in school. I use FAFSA and they provide me with grants (CA and Federal) as well as government loans, which I don’t have to pay back until 6 months after I’m out of school. Sometimes, if that is not enough… you may need to take out private loans which have higher interest (and you may need your parents as co-signers). I lucked out b/c even though I go to a private school I got a scholarship from the school so I don’t need a private loan– only grants and loans from the gov’t… i think the FAFSA thing is good until you are 25(my friend told me), which is good if you want to continue your education past undergrad…
