How Do Greyhound Trainers Make Money In The Sport Of Greyhound Racing?

0

I bred several racing greyhounds in the early 1990s and the way it worked then was that trainers worked for individual kennels and were paid a salary plus room and board to work at the track during the racing season. They also received bonuses if the kennel reach certain performance-based goals. On the farm, trainers received a salary plus room and board and were awarded bonuses based upon the number of dogs actually qualified for the track. Being a trainer is grueling work as you are at the track for every card, twice if matinee and evening cards are run. Then, before races begin and on your day off, you have to exercise and feed the dogs and work on any dogs that may be injured. It’s not a very glamerous lifestyle, to be sure.
