There are 2 different ways, their is the sanatan way of worship (pujas) and the haavan, which is the Vedic way of worship. I will explain that one because I am most familiar with it. Yes, shoes are removed and people are usually sitting on the floor with their legs folded (older people can sit on chairs in the back or on the sides). The haavan kund (a metal bowl, kind of) is in the center with about 5 people circling it. Within the kund is a fire, which is the center of prayer (fire is thought to be a cleanser). They start off with the Sandhiya prayers, which takes about 15-20 mins (blessing from the earth, God, etc) and then move into the actual haavan (takes about 45 mins) of prayers, you can look them up online. The prayers are very standard and are mostly nature based. Afterwords, they sing welcoming bhajans along with other ones.
