How do I apply for Aid?
• The fastest way is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online—FASFA on the Web—and provide the required signatures. The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov. • The student and a parent are required to provide a signature at the end of the application. Be sure to secure a PIN for both the student and a parent before you fill out the FAFSA. • It will take three to seven days to process your FAFSA and send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). • Your SAR will summarize the data you report on your FAFSA. Check the SAR carefully to make sure it is accurate. (Keep a copy of your SAR.) • If your FAFSA information is complete, an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) will be printed in the upper right corner. Your EFC is based on the financial information you provide on the FAFSA. • Your school will use your EFC to award your financial aid.
Win6.jpg The process of applying for financial aid is simple. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to apply for financial aid using our school code of 003359. All students are encouraged to apply for financial assistance as soon after January 1 as possible, but no later than May 1. After you file a FAFSA, the information is forwarded to RMU by the federal government. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) which indicates your application has been received and processed. At this time, you may be required to provide additional information to RMU, such as tax returns or financial statements to verify the accuracy of the information listed on the SAR. The Financial Aid office will notify you if additional information is required. Generally, financial aid eligibility is based on the previous year’s income information.
To apply for financial assistance and merit scholarships, families must complete Grinnell College’s Application for Financial Aid and Scholarships (AFA) as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please return the AFA to Grinnell College as indicated on the application. You must send the FAFSA to the processing center no later than February 1. Be sure to list Grinnell’s Title IV school code-001868-on the FAFSA. Make sure you submit documents by established deadlines so you don’t miss out on funds. If your family is unsure of certain income tax information, it is better to estimate amounts than to delay submitting the FAFSA and AFA until IRS tax forms have been completed. To receive notice of your financial aid eligibility, complete one of the three following options.
