How do I backup a SQL Server Database to Amazon S3 Cloud Storage using SecoBackup?

1

SQL Server has a “hot backup” or “online backup” facility built into it. You simply make it backup to a directory that you have asked SecoBackup to backup to S3 and your SS backups will go to S3. http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/dba/creating_backup_jobs_p1.aspx The procedure is a simple process of setting up a maintainence plan to create a “Backup a Database” task. Where it says “Folder:” pick a location where you want the local backups to be placed. Note that you can have the local backup copy to be deleted after say 3 days – thats ok – because your Amazon S3 backup is still preserved by SecoBackup. That way you can have daily backups for 30 days at your disposal at Amazon S3, while you only keep 3 days worth of backup on your local disk.
