Most people can become a car salesman, but keeping the job is another story entirely. You will often see advertised positions for car salesmen, which would seem to indicate that the auto business is booming. This is not necessarily the case. Car dealerships hire many salesmen because they often pay solely on commission. Sell cars, and you make money. Fail to reach a minimum sales quota, and you make nothing. In the latter case, you will also likely be fired. Thus, becoming a car salesman is not really a matter of qualifications, experience, or education. It is more involved with basic personality traits. Most major car dealerships have entry level positions for car sales. They will train you. It’s a bottom floor position and it won’t pay much, but if you learn how to sell and become a top salesperson, you will earn a lot of money. Car sales can be a rewarding career but it is also very competative and the turnover rate is tremendous. Not much stability in car sales.

You start by signing a blood contract with Satan. Then, you have to figure out ways to con people into things they don’t need. Lastly, you need to feel ok with yourself acting like someone’s best friend and then ignoring them after the paperwork is signed. Ok, I am exaggerating, but there are too many jerk car dealers that makes buying cars unenjoyable. The auto industry is a mess. I would focus on a different career if I were you.

About 10% of those may make an excellent income. Start at a place that wants no experience. Learn their system. After they blow you out you too can give advice on answers as a former professional.

Not dis-similar to others like a doctor, dentist, lawyer, insurance, stock broker, etc. As you build your client base from providing excellent service & addressing client’s needs, you’ll enjoy success & rewards.
