Obviously, you need your superpower carefully. You need something that will help you fighting crime. Also, it should be something no other superhuman already has, so becoming superman alone is not enough. When you have thought of a good superpower, you need to find a good accident on how you can contract your superpower. Let's say, you decide to the ant-agonist: with the strength of an ant. So, what better way to contract your power than to seek out a remote location with an ant-hill of a species that is known to bite, but that science has not yet researched on effects? So off you go to middle america, and find the most remote anthill you can find. The more aggressive the ants are, the better. A good superhuman has to nearly die before being able to get the superpowers! Ok, once you step on the anthill, you should be attacked by the ants. Let them be, don't run away.
