It depends on what type of accountant you want to be. If you want to work as a private accountant (like "Oscar, Kevin, and Angela from the Ofiice"), you don't necessarily need any degree. There are some accountants with only a high school diploma. If you want to work as a tax preparer, you only need a high school diploma and enroll in a free tax preparer class through Liberty, or any other company offering its services. Now if you want to work for a public (not like "The Office" but a company filled with all accounting staffs doing tax, audit, and advisory) accounting firm, then you will need a bachelors with accounting classes. Depending on the school you go to, ask your counselor for the best route for an accountant. Some accounting firms may even hire economics major students. If you want to advance in your career in public accounting firms, then you will need to pass the national CPA exam. To become an ACCA member you will need to complete the ACCA Qualification. This involves completing 14 exams (nine of which you can be exempt from depending on previous qualifications) and obtaining three years practical work experience as an accountant.
