How do I build a solid wood cube?
Wood cubes have been around forever, the shape being the most basic of all designs. The cube has been used for toys, furniture and simple paperweights. A simple cube might seem easy to make and it is; it just depends on how perfect it needs to be and what you are going to use it for.Simple and LaminatedTo make a solid cube the simplest way, purchase a pine board 4 by 4 by 48 inches. Set a stop on a miter saw at 3 1/2 inches and slice off the cubes. Bear in mind that a 4 by 4 will not usually be 4 inches in width, so the blocks will measure about 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Another simple way to make blocks is to laminate (stack up and glue together) four pieces of pine or poplar boards that are 1 by 4 1/2 by 48 inches. When the laminated board is dry, trim it down to 4 inches square on a table saw, then set a stop at 4 inches on the miter saw and slice off blocks.Plywood WrappedStart out by purchasing a 4-by-4-by-48-inch board of any species of wood.
