How do I change a battery in a wired smoke detector?
Remove the UnitGrab the plastic casing on your hard wired smoke detector, and pull it off from the wall. Many wired smoke detectors swivel from one side so that parts do not fall off of the unit. You will know when a backup battery is failing when you hear a soft beep coming from the unit; however, you should replace batteries every year even if the detector isn’t beeping.Remove the Old BatteryGrasp the battery by its edges to remove it from the smoke detector. In some smoke detectors you may have to take the battery out of the unit as well as unplug the cord connecting it to the power circuit. Discard the old battery safely. Remember not to throw batteries away with other household trash due to a risk of explosion.Insert the New BatteryInsert a new battery into the unit in the same manner as the one you removed. Once the new battery is attached, you may here a beeping sound confirming that power is restored.
