First-Wave CleanersSpot-test a discreet area of your carpet before applying the following solutions, to make sure they aren’t too harsh for the fabric. Pour nail polish remover on a dry cotton cloth. Carefully work from the outside of the stain inward and soak the fibers with the chemical. Blot until the polish remover doesn’t pick up the lipstick anymore. Pour dry-cleaning solution on another dry cloth. Blot the mark again from the outside in until it stops removing the stain.Milder CleanersMix together 1 1/2 tsp. of liquid mild detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Pour the solution on another clean dry cloth. Blot the stain from the outside edges until the cloth doesn’t pick it up anymore. Or mix 2 tbsp. of ammonia with 1 cup of warm water. Pour the solution on a new cloth. Work at the spot from the outside inward until the ammonia stops picking up the stain. Or mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water. Pour the solution on another dry cloth.
