As the cycle completes it is almost certainly the element failed. Disconnect the electric and water and bale out residual water from the sump with a sponge. The more you can bale out the less spillage will occur. Lay the machine on it’s side with some old towels on the floor. Remove the bottom panel to view the immersion heater element. Make sure the connections are not fractured. Remove the connections and put a test meter set to ohms on both terminals. No reading = shot element. You unscrew the small nut in between the terminals to remove the element. Note you may need a deep socket and it is around 8 mm in size. Make sure you describe the machine make and model and you will be able to get an element online.
