How do I gel coat a boat hull?

0

Preparing the BoatPull your boat out of the water. Let it dry thoroughly. The gel coat on your boat hull is what makes it shiny. If the boat has many cracks in the gel coat, you may need to sand down the hull. If there are just one or two cracks, simply repair just those areas.Gel GoatingPurchase a gel coat repair kit, matching the color of the boat. Mix the gel coat paste, color and the catalyst. Use a flexible plastic spreader to spread the gel coat on the boat hull where the problem spot is, then cover it with the sheet of plastic provided in the kit. If you need more plastic, use a trash bag. Let it dry for 24 hours.Sanding and BuffingRemove the plastic. Spray a little water on the area. Wet sand the new gel coat with 120-grit sand paper in gentle circular motions. Repeat the application another time to increase the thickness of the gel coat.
