How do i get cigarette smoke smell out of mattress?
My husband is a smoker and although he doesn’t smoke in the house, the smell can linger on sofas and our mattress. It takes a little bit of elbow grease, but I take the mattress outside and let it air out for half a day. I found that spraying it with Febreze Fabric refresher eliminates most of the odors and doesn’t just mask them. I typically do this every 1 1/2 months or so.
Two years ago I bought a massage table off Ebay that smelled like it had been in a house fire! I was able to get rid of all of the smell. 1) I used soapy water to wipe down all the hard surfaces and rinsed. I then let it dry in the sun in an area that had a good cross breeze. 2) I then placed the table in a room by itself and opened all the windows (it was summer) to keep fresh air flowing through the room. I then took a large box of baking soda and poured it over the top of the table. (For a mattress I would think about placing a tightly knit sheet over it so the powder doesn’t get into it.) I let it sit for a week. Then I vacuumed up the powder. If it still has a smoke smell repeat. If that doesn’t work you can try wiping down the fabric with a water and vinegar mixture. The vinegar will deodorize and help clean the fabric. Just be cautious as over use of vinegar can weaken elastic fibers. Which is why I recommend this as a last resort.
