How do I get my dog to pee and poop on a newspaper?

I find that if you watch close enough you can tell they want to go and often are actually inclined to want to go outside instead of in the area they have to spend time. but if you wish to paper train first do as said above just put on paper when going or when finished eating etc, also although it is not what you would want to do if you clean up any accidents but leave just one pee and poo on the paper it indicates to the puppy that it was actually the correct place to go and they will go in the same spot again (but don’t let it pile up they don’t like that ) just leave one there. The same when want to go in particular spot in garden, clean all poos up except one in the area that you wan the dog to go in and they will or should learn to do it where you leave the poo.

There is no need to do that. If you take your pup outside every time he has a meal, a treat, a drink or after playtime and before you go out, he won’t need to go on paper.Take him out to the garden first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I tried the nappy square that you can use instead of newspaper, but mine just picked it up and ran around with it,so I did not bother, using the method I mentioned above I had him toilet trained in 3 weeks, after that he only ever went in the house once and that was firework night, so that was only to be expected as he was afraid to go outside.
