Turn on your Canon PowerShot SX10 IS camera, and remove the lens cap. Press the “Macro” button–the flower icon on the left side of the control dial to the right of the LCD–or press and hold the “Macro” button for at least 2 seconds to use Super Macro mode. If using Macro mode, zoom in on your subject as desired–press the “Zoom” lever to the left or right as needed. As you zoom, check the LCD for a yellow bar below the zoom bar that outlines the range that you can’t zoom within. If you zoom within the yellow bar range, the shooting distance switches to normal mode, and the Macro mode flower icon turns gray. When you are satisfied with the focusing distance, press the shutter button to take a picture.
