How Do I Get To The Starter Motor On My Astra Diesel 1700Cc Van (W Reg)?

The starter motor is located at the back of the engine below the fuel inlet manifold. The best way to get at it is to jack the car up as high as you can, place axel supports under the car. Remove the exhaust from the manifold, lay on your back under the car and you will be able to get to the starter. Before you remove the starter do a few checks just to make sure that you are not removing it unnecessarily. First make sure that the connections on the battery are clean and tight, then follow the cables down to the starter. Again check to make sure that the connections between all the cables are tight and clean. The get yourself a multi meter, connect it to the battery and try turning over the engine. Take a record of the voltage on the battery and if it drops below 8 volts you probably need a new battery. As your van is a diesel it needs to have a really good condition battery. Ja.
